Lithium and Her

Lithium and Her

My work begins at the network created when experiences in reality collides with the world of subconsciousness.

Reality and non-reality entangle and collide to create a world of fantasy.

My insomnia creates the condition of hallucination, and reality mixed with non-reality in the state of hallucination to create different images and thoughts. Doing art itself is a life of abnormality, and this leads to anxiety and isolation in reality, urging me to hide in the world of non-reality. My work either exposes me or covers me with the link of symbolism. The various allegories that appear in my work are the psychological elements that reflect my will to expose ‘myself’ to ‘others’ in metaphorical ways. It may also be a process of healing the state of depression in reality while going back and forth between moderation and madness. When the healing part of art is defined as an outcome of a process that begins with the artist’s obsessive compulsion, it may be a different world map presented to the spectators standing on the boundaries. The artist’s power of imagination may be violent to the viewers, but it can stimulate the curiosity of night watchers that desire to break out of the daily grind.

Lithium, a soft silver metal that is the lightest of all metals with the atomic number of 3 and the symbol of Li, is one of the songs in Nirvana’s album titled Nevermind. Kurt Cobain was suffering from a severe bipolar and wrote a song about lithium, which he was taking to treat the disease. He might have also expressed his sarcasm and madness toward the society through that music and took it as a process of healing for his introversion. In fact, ‘Lithium’ was a song about hallucination and fantasy he saw as a drug addict, but it must have been his will to live as lithium is used as a tranquilizer. Both the artists who make art and viewers who appreciate it cannot overlook art’s role for healing. The upcoming exhibition began with the keywords of ‘Lithium and Her’. This is the ‘will to live’ of an ego that is trapped in confusion and collision between two worlds and fails to adjust to the reality.
